A New Recording of “Drawn Back to the Table,” Featuring Chanda Rule

Today, the University of Notre Dame Folk Choir and I are releasing a new recording of “Drawn Back to the Table,” featuring Chanda Rule.

The song first appeared on The Passion in 2023. It gathers the grief and bewilderment of the road to Emmaus into one of the Gospel’s most intimate images: strangers sharing a table, bread being broken, and eyes opening to a presence that had accompanied them all along.

Returning to the song gave us the chance to hear it anew. Chanda brings an extraordinary combination of spiritual depth, warmth, freedom, and presence. She does not simply deliver the melody; she makes the invitation at the heart of the song feel immediate and lived.

This recording also points toward the expanded Drawn Back to the Table project—a larger musical journey through memory, suffering, recognition, communion, and response. I’m grateful to the Folk Choir students and to every artist who has helped the work continue to grow.

The single is released by Notre Dame Records and is available now on all major streaming services.
